Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2024 Honda Pilot, we're gonna be showing you how to install the Curt Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring Harness. But before we do that, let's just take a minute, check this out and make sure it's going to work for you. So right away you might be wondering, "Well, why is this hanging out of the back of the vehicle" And this is just one way you can set it up on the Pilot. And what I recommend honestly, and with it like this, you know you're gonna have enough length to reach all the way down here, and plug into your trailer. And so I'll give you an example here on how this works.
What you're gonna do is take the wiring, drape it over the threshold, just avoid the latch area, and then close the hatch on it. It might seem kind of odd doing that, but you know, it's designed to be able to handle that type of thing. You're not gonna hurt the wiring or your vehicle for that matter. And the reason I say I like it set up like this because it's pretty easy to get to. I simply just have this stored in this little compartment here.
So easy to get to when you're ready to use it, and when you're not using it, we store it right in there, it's outta sight and out of the elements. Now with that said, if you would rather have that mounted up down by the hitch on a bracket or something like that, by all means you can do it. You know, you'll just have to find a grommet located inside of here to be able to drop that down, and run it over there. This kit is going to be a four-way flat type connector, which is really common and especially for the types of trailers that the pilot is likely to be pulling around. So if you're trailer connector in, looks like this one here, this is a kit that you're gonna want to go with.
You'll be able to plug it in and send those signals back not only to be safe, but it's a legal requirement as well. And so with this kit, you're gonna get your turn signals, your tail lights and your brake lights so you're have all your bases covered there. With that in mind, if your trailer connector looks different, if it's bigger, similar to this, a seven way round type connector, there's another custom fit kit available for the Pilot with this style. So if that's how your trailer set up, that's the kit you'd want to check into. As far as the construction quality goes, Curt's been around for a long time, and there's a reason for it, and that's because they make good parts.
So pretty reliable kit, and we'll definitely get the job done. As far as the installation goes, it's really not too bad at all in this particular vehicle. You just remove your floor covering in the back here. Pop that little, that little container out that we showed you a minute ago, and there's a factory connector plug kind of tucked up in there. So the wiring will plug into that, and then you'll have a ground that you need to secure to the vehicle. That's really all there is to it. On our vehicle, we did have to add a few fuses to the fuse block in the engine compartment, it was missing 'em from the factory, which I feel like in most cases, that'll probably be your situation as well. So the ones that I had to add, I'd add two mini or I'm sorry, micro low profile fuses that we inchesre 20 amps, and one 30 amp JCASE style fuse. So we do carry the 20 amp ones here so you can pick those up if you need 'em. The JCASE style though, if you don't have any or anything like that, if your vehicle's not equipped with 'em already, that's something you can grab at the auto parts store. But you know, it's something to keep in mind and think about because those fuses don't come with the kit. But other than that, at the end of the day, you know it's really nice that you can get a plug and play type wiring kit, set it up on your Pilot and you know, be able to power up the lights on your trailer. But with that said, why don't we go ahead, and get started installing this now. To begin our installation, we're gonna be working here at the back of our Honda and we're gonna be inside. So we'll open up our hatch, and there's gonna be a factory connector plug over here in this area on the driver's side that we'll have to get to. So we'll start by removing this floor covering here. What we can do now, we have this little door here, there's this two qu
