Grilling 101 for Beginners: How to Make Classic Hot Dogs & Hamburgers on the Grill 🔥
Hot dogs and hamburgers are fundamental food items of any summer cookout, so I want to break down exactly how to prepare both so you feel confident for the next time you’re hosting a crowd.
While a lot of people have these mastered, I wanted to take a more basic approach here to help those people who are just getting into grilling. For those interested, I’ll attach some simple recipes below that I made in my @charbroilgrills 3 burner pro series gas grill:
Hot Dog Ingredients
• 1 package (5-count) jumbo frank hot dogs
• 5 hot dog buns (or as needed)
• ¼ C dill pickle relish, per hot dog
• Ketchup, as needed
• Mustard, as needed
• ¼ C Sweet onions, diced, per hot dog
• 2-3 T butter, melted
Hamburger Ingredients
• 1 package (~1-2 lbs.) 80/20% ground beef
• Salt & pepper, as needed
• Hamburger buns
• 2-3 T butter, melted
Toppings
• dill pickle relish
• Ketchup, as needed
• Mustard, as needed
• Sweet onions, diced
• Lettuce
• tomatoes
Procedure:
1. Preheat grill to medium heat (around 350–400°F). While it heats, pat hot dogs dry and form the ground beef into 4–6 oz. patties (dividing the pack into 4 equal portions helps with size). Season with salt, pepper, or your favorite savory rub.
2. Grill burgers and dogs for 8–10 minutes, flipping as needed. Pull hot dogs once seared on all sides. Add cheese to burgers right before removing to melt.
3. Brush buns with butter and toast cut-side down until golden.
4. Assemble with your favorite toppings, serve, and enjoy.
