What is Kōyō & Momiji Definition??
Autumn Colors and Fall Kōyō refer to the general phenomenon of autumn leaves changing color
while momiji specifically refers to the red leaves of the Japanese maple tree. Both words are written with the same kanji (紅葉, meaning "red leaves") but have different meanings, with kōyō representing the broader concept and momiji representing a specific type of leaf.
Mt. Daisen in western Tottori Prefecture is famous for its autumn leaves. Covered in richly colored leaves and not just the beech, but oak, maple, Japanese rowan, and other deciduous trees change colors all at once. This is why the leaves turn shades of vermilion, orange, yellow, and more in the autumn, and the whole mountain is said to take on seven colors.
Around late October and early November, the maple and beech forests that cover the mountain slopes turn brilliant shades of autumn colors.
One of the best places to view the leaves is from a parking lot at Kagikake-toge Pass south of the mountain (not reachable by public transportation) #japan #travel #tottori #Daisen
