Experience A Mississippi Delta Local Black Bar In 1975. Saturday Night Blues

A Black American bar in a small town where the men sing, exchange stories, dance and have a damn good time. The Mississippi Delta Blues, BB King blues, came from this place and began just a few years before this was recorded by one of my favorite 16mm documentary filmmakers, William Ferris with whom I have done a documentary interview that is quite extraordinary. It presents portions of his work and his philosophies. Here it is -

Ferris took a camera and a sound rig and went to places “in his neighborhood” and most folks said yes to his recording stories and music and culture that was and is, unique and beautiful. As I mentioned in the film clip posted above, one of the most extraordinary things about this scene is that it looked to me like they were doing like a form of Rap music. I asked William Ferris about this as he has become a major folklorists studying the subject and he agreed that indeed it was.

Those of you who have seen some of my work know of my 16mm 1972 documentary recorded with BB King at Sing Sing Prison in New York State. William Ferris also recorded an incredible documentary with BB King at just about the same time. I will present elements of that in my video interview with him.
