Clémentine de Chabaneix was born into a family of artists: Her mother was an actress, and her grandparents were the sculptors Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne, known together as Les Lalanne. As a child, she spent many vacations in their studio-house and acquired a taste for aesthetic research. After studying theater, de Chabaneix learned how to draw, paint, and sculpt at the Pradier School. As a sculptor, she first made characters in resin and metal that belonged to the surrealistic pop current and were shown in Paris, Rome, and Los Angeles. Afterwards, she turned to ceramics. Her works are sculpted in clay and glazed; in addition, there are often drawings that accompany the sculptures. De Chabaneix has been asked to create installations for prestigious venues such as the Fondation Cartier. Everywhere she goes, her works leave a fragile mark characteristic of her work, as they are evocative of dreams and of the brokenness inherent to the human condition.
