Newport State of Mind is Goldie Lookin Chain’s unofficial civic anthem — a parody of Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ Empire State of Mind, reworked to celebrate (and take the piss out of) life in Newport, South Wales.

Originally released in 2010, the track went viral almost instantly, racking up millions of views before being taken down due to copyright complaints. But the message lived on: you’re not from Newport, and that’s fine — just don’t pretend you are.

This version is for everyone who’s ever waited for a taxi on Cambrian Road, walked through John Frost Square with a bag of chips, or got kicked out of McDonald’s for reasons that seemed harsh at the time.
