It has taken many years for me to finally record this. It took many hours to mix it as closely to the original as possible (see greg Lake's comments below). The synth sections toward the end are samples from Keith's Modular Moog. In the first verse, I replaced the Hammond Organ with a Cathedral Organ and Choir, as this was originally intended to be a hymn.

GREG LAKE describes the mixing of Jerusalem:
“It’s a piece of music that will sound better the louder you play it. That’s the first thing, but by the nature of the way it’s constructed, it always seems to require just a bit more of everything than it’s getting. When we mixed it, we mixed it twice on two 18 hour sessions, and I assure you, I tried every type of echo and delayed echo that were available on the whole track and went through unbelievable amounts of time. Whatever you put on there, it always wants a little extra, a little more…and it’s like the lost chord, no matter how much you try, you’ll never find it. It’ll never be absolutely right.” (Greg was spot-on regarding the mixing of Jerusalem, but I think I have come close to nailing it).

HISTORY OF THE ELP VERSION OF JERUSALEM:
“Jerusalem” was recorded in 1973 at Advision Studios in Fitzrovia, London, with engineer Geoff Young. The Brain Salad Surgery album, on which “Jerusalem” appears, was mixed in the first week of October 1973 at AIR Studios in London. It was produced by Greg Lake.
The “Jerusalem" single was released on 30 November 1973, but its success was inhibited by the BBC, which banned the song from airplay. As a result, "Jerusalem" failed to chart in the United Kingdom. Keith said he always loved the hymn, and wanted to do a version of it. He never went out of his way to anger people with this.

HISTORY OF THE LYRICS:
"And did those feet in ancient time" is a poem by William Blake from the preface to his epic Milton: A Poem in Two Books, one of a collection of writings known as the Prophetic Books. Today it is best known as the hymn "Jerusalem", with music written by Sir Hubert Parry in 1916.
The poem was inspired by the apocryphal story that Joseph of Arimathea, accompanied by a young Jesus, travelled to what is now England and visited Glastonbury during his unknown years.
The poem's theme is linked to the Book of Revelation 3:12 and 21:2 describing a Second Coming, wherein Jesus establishes a New Jerusalem. Churches in general, and the Church of England in particular, have long used Jerusalem as a metaphor for Heaven, a place of universal love and peace.
In the most common interpretation of the poem, Blake implies that a visit by Jesus would briefly create heaven in England, in contrast to the "dark Satanic Mills" of the Industrial Revolution. Blake's poem asks four questions rather than asserting the historical truth of Christ's visit. Thus the poem merely implies that there may, or may not, have been a divine visit, when there was briefly heaven in England.

None of my videos should be listened to on cheap 1 inch iPhone speakers. Instead, listen on a high quality stereo system. Play it loud with sufficient bass & treble.
