Tairi was raised in Black Muslim culture in Philadelphia, and his grandfather was with Malcolm X at the time of his death. But one day, amid a heated argument with his Christian grandfather, he told him that their gods were not the same, and only those who knew Jesus were going to heaven. This hard fact sparked a curiosity in his grandfather’s God and their personal relationship, which was foreign to Tairi in Islam.

At 12, he decided he needed a God who could love him despite his sin, one who would offer unconditional acceptance and intimacy he could not have with Allah – He found it in Christ. Today Tairi has insight into why young black men are turning to Islam. He is a graduate of Dallas Seminary and an inner-city schoolteacher.
