Help me restoring this Sony TC-850 Reel-to-Reel Deck

I have this problem with this Sony TC-850, when I try to stop, it stops as long as I keep mu finger pressed on the Stop button, the moment I release my finger, it jumps back to play mode. If I rewind, as the first operation after turning it on, it does not jump to Play mode. But if I fast forward as the first operation after switching it on, it jumps to Play mode after stop. Can you help?
