Why Kuramae Is Tokyo’s Most Underrated District (Just Minutes from Asakusa)

Kuramae is located just south of Asakusa, about a 10–15 minute walk from the Kaminarimon Gate. Set along the Sumida River, this area has a calm and relaxed atmosphere that feels very different from bustling Asakusa, with plenty of cafés, restaurants, and craft shops scattered throughout the neighborhood. In the Edo period, it was the site of the shogunate’s rice warehouses, and later it grew into a center of craftsmanship and manufacturing.

Today, the area has many hotels and other accommodations, and two railway lines run through it, making it very convenient for visitors. For this video, we spent a full day exploring Kuramae.
