What causes the food dye molecules to move throughout the water? Why does this happen more quickly in the warm water?
This science experiment is to find the rate of diffusion in hot water vs cold water.
Materials required: 3 glasses of water (hot, cold, and room temperature), food dyes.
In this experiment, the diffusion of food coloring in hot, warm, and cold water shows how temperature affects the rate of diffusion. The process is much faster in hot water than in cold water. This happens because water becomes less viscous as it heats up, allowing the dye molecules to move farther before changing direction, which makes them move faster.
