Rumination hits hardest when you don’t feel safe—tired, exhausted, overwhelmed, stressed, and you didn’t sleep enough. You lose your sense of reality, believe the thoughts as true, react to them, and it spills into your actions and your body: stress, anxiety, sleepless nights, anger, frustration, disappointment, sadness. If you were raised by emotionally immature parents, safety wasn’t your baseline, so your brain learned to protect you by anticipating negativity. The illusion between rumination and reality becomes so thin you can’t see it.
