The Outeniqua Mountains are a majestic mountain range on the southern tip of Africa. The name, Outeniqua, comes from the Khoisan word meaning “the people who bear honey.” Cloaked in lush fynbos and indigenous forest, the mountains form part of the Cape Fold Belt and are known for their misty peaks, dramatic passes, and rich biodiversity. The Outeniqua Pass offers breathtaking views, connecting the coastal Garden Route with the Little Karoo.
Deep in the mountains we found a hidden gem of a campsite on a private property, Pieter River Nature Reserve. A part from traveling solo on this trip I also had the entire property to myself. This campsite is rustic and you need to bring water and power. The views here are amazing and I rate this as one of the best campsites I visited. I found them on iOverlander. Look them up.
