Model S Trunk & Frunk Storage TEST: Can a Family of 5 Road Trip in Tesla's Sedan? (Loaner Review)

My Model Y Juniper was in service, and I was given a 2026 Model S Long Range demo vehicle to drive—a brand new car with only 103 miles on the clock, featuring FSD V14.1.7! I was originally going to include this with my service video, but I realized this flagship sedan deserves its own dedicated review.

My initial driving impression is that the ride is incredibly smooth and quiet, even better ride comfort than the Model Y Juniper, thanks to the adjustable adaptive suspension and active noise canceling. I immediately put FSD V14 to the test on the freeway and found the suspension handles well, but the FSD itself felt less confident than it does in my Model Y, struggling to commit to lane changes and doing some "teeter-tottering." Warning: I also experienced FSD scraping the front bumper in a parking lot dip because it doesn't recognize the low stance!

I also performed a crucial test: Can a family of five road trip in the Model S? I found the trunk space to be massive, easily swallowing our largest suitcase and cooler, proving the Model S is a surprisingly practical sedan. However, I share my biggest pet peeve: why do the premium Model S/X still not have a powered frunk or 120V outlets when the Cybertruck does?

I conclude with my thoughts on the price and whether I would buy one new. Given the significant depreciation (I've seen previous Plaid refreshes in the low $50k range!), I suggest buying a well-priced used Model S from the second generation if you can't afford new.
