歌词注释 Lyric notes:
1, 镜听 源自蒲松龄《聊斋志异》里的故事，指除夕夜抱镜占卜的习俗，前途未卜的人怀抱镜子出门摄入过路人的无心言语，以此来判断前路的吉凶。此歌里独守空房没有子嗣的女子希望能从来往的鸟儿那里得到出门多年未归的情人的消息，然而她什么消息也没有得到。由此她得知情人早已战死沙场。在通过镜听占卜确定爱人已去后，无依无靠华年已逝的她在四更时分自尽身亡，化作大雁南飞以求和爱人团聚。

Mirror Listening, or Listening to the Mirror, is a conventional fortune-telling method first appeared in Pu Songling's novel "Strange Stories from A Chinese Study". In new year's eve, people with uncertainties hold a mirror in her/his chest, use the mirror to catch any random talking from any by-passers, as a hint to indicate her/his fortune or fate.
In this story, the childless home-alone women hoped the mirror could get some news about her lover from the passing bird, but she gets nothing, then she knew he has already died in the battle field. The hopeless women end her own life at the end of the night, and become a goose to fly to her lover, who she hoped desperately to come back to her.

2. 金川,四川西南地名, 清朝乾隆年间发动大小金川之战（分别发生于1747-1749年和1772-1777年) ，付出极大伤亡代价平定了西南少数民族地区。
Jinchuan, a bordering area in southwest Sichuan. During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, two battles occurred there in 1747-1749 and 1772-1777 respectively had helped Qing Dynasty pacified the southwest minority areas at the cost of huge casualties.
