I was operating a city-permitted backhoe on a fully zoned commercial lot—hard hat on, permits posted, crew trained, noise within legal decibel limits.
Then she rolled up—in a luxury SUV, designer sunglasses, Pomeranian trembling in her arms—marched past the safety cones, and demanded I shut down immediately.
“Your machinery is terrifying my dog! This is animal cruelty!”
Never mind that:
She had zero authority to be on the site.
Her poodle was on a public sidewalk, across the street.
And I hadn’t even started the hydraulic lift yet.
When I politely told her this was a secured work zone and asked her to leave, she called 911—claiming I was “operating heavy equipment recklessly near civilians.”
The police arrived…
took one look at my permits, the site fencing, and her standing well outside the legal buffer zone…
and said:
“Ma’am, construction sites make noise. Maybe walk on the other side of the street?”
But I didn’t stop there.
I filed a trespassing report, posted the city’s noise compliance certificate at the entrance…
and—next week—hosted a “Meet the Builders” community day, where kids got to sit in the cab and learn how buildings rise.
Stay until the end—you’ll see her try to argue that “emotional distress to pets” should override building codes…
just as the city inspector hands me a “Zero Violations” certification… signed in front of her poodle.
Thank you for watching! 🚧🐶
