Snow Lake Trail | Washington | June 2023

This trail starts at the Alpental Ski Area and leads up to the incredible Snow Lake. This is becoming one of the most popular hikes in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. The route starts by climbing alongside the South Fork Snoqualmie River with Snoqualmie Mountain on your right. You’ll pass by numerous waterfalls and follow switchbacks on your way up to the destination.

The journey starts at the parking lot next to the Snow Lakes Trailhead, about 1.5 miles north of the freeway exit for Snoqualmie Pass. This 6.7-mile out-and-back trail is generally considered moderately challenging but I would do it again ! The elevation gain is manageable and the reward at the end is definitely worth it. The trail is well maintained.

The views of the Alpental ski resort are captivating early on and as you go up it just keeps getting better. Then going onto the Source Lake Overlook we got a stunning view of multiple thin waterfalls making their way down the rock face. The overlook trail is definitely the path less traveled and was much more enjoyable than being on the main trail.

Once we got to the top and were met with the view of Snow Lake, the decent was full of views of the lake and surrounding mountains and peaks.

We completed this hike at the end of June and the water was freezing, still with some snow on the surface. I imagine if you were to go in August you might be able to jump in for an alpine dip.
