SOVT voice therapy is often used in rehabilitation of injured voices but lately, SOVT vocal exercises, or semi-occluded vocal tract exercises, are becoming popular among singers. Oren Boder is a vocal teacher and vocal scientists whose passion is in semi occluded vocal tract exercises straw phonation. In this video, he explains the benefits of straw phonation exercises and he introduces his singing straws. Then, we talk about different tasks with the straws, such as voice therapy exercises vs. strengthening straw exercises.

My interview with Oren lasted much longer than one YouTube video, so I will be posting part 2 of this interview next week, in which we will introduce Oren’s favourite straw exercise and more. By the way, my favourite is straw phonation in water.
