You can't help look at the slightly runic name on the headstock - 'Adina' - and wonder which legendary Norsewoman this guitar is named after, and what part this warrior played in the Viking raids on England's wind-swept and inhospitable North East coasts in the dark years of 900AD... But the name, according to Hagstrom, was chosen for its Hebrew origin and meaning: "delicate, luxurious and noble'. I'm intrigued and confused in equal measure. And apparently it's a tribute to the 'legendary Hagstrom Futurama Coronado Automatic' of 1964 - a claim that sends you off looking for the original. And what a beauty it was! And yes, you can see the evolution from one to the other.
This guitar sits firmly in the £650 price range and it feels like it. Quality parts and amazing sustain from the thick, chunky body. Sounds great, feels great, looks totally unique - and the only improvements I had to make were minimal and only in pursuit of an extremely low action with no buzzes or chokes. In this video, I perform a precision fret levelling, re-crowning and sanding/polishing including a small amount of reduction of the 1st fret action. Beyond that, everything was spot on (bar one or two tuners being slightly over-tight but that's nothing to grumble about!). Pleasure to work on.
