Steak with mushroom sauce and cheesy mashed potatoes
Ingredients
For the steak:
• 2 ribeye or sirloin steaks
• Salt and black pepper
• 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
• 2 garlic cloves, smashed
• A few sprigs of fresh thyme or rosemary (optional)
For the mushroom sauce:
• 1 tbsp butter
• 1 tbsp olive oil
• 200g (about 1 cup) mushrooms, sliced (button, cremini, or a mix)
• 2 garlic cloves, minced
• 1/2 cup beef or vegetable broth
• 1/2 cup heavy cream
• Salt & pepper to taste
• Optional: splash of Worcestershire sauce
• Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
For the cheesy mashed potatoes:
• 3–4 large potatoes, peeled and chopped
• 2 tbsp butter
• 1/4 cup milk or heavy cream (adjust for texture)
• 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or a mix of mozzarella & parmesan)
• Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions
1. Make the Mashed Potatoes:
1. Boil potatoes in salted water until fork-tender (about 15–20 minutes).
2. Drain and mash with butter and milk.
3. Stir in the cheese while still hot so it melts smoothly.
4. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Keep warm.
2. Cook the Steaks:
1. Pat steaks dry with paper towels. Season generously with salt and pepper.
2. Heat olive oil or butter in a pan over medium-high heat.
3. Sear the steaks 3–4 minutes per side for medium-rare (adjust to your liking). Add garlic and herbs toward the end for flavor.
4. Remove and rest the steaks under foil.
3. Make the Mushroom Sauce:
1. In the same pan, add butter and olive oil.
2. Add mushrooms and cook until browned (5–7 minutes).
3. Add garlic and cook 1 more minute.
4. Deglaze with broth (and wine/Worcestershire if using), scraping up the flavorful bits.
5. Lower heat and add cream. Simmer until thickened, about 5 minutes.
6. Season with salt and pepper. Garnish with parsley.

• Place mashed potatoes on the plate, top with steak, and spoon mushroom sauce over the top.
• Optional: Serve with steamed greens or roasted veggies on the side.
