OWC (Other World Computing) brought a comprehensive showcase of high-performance storage and connectivity products to Computex 2025, underlining its focus on Thunderbolt 5 expansion and media production workflows. The centerpiece was the ThunderBlade S12 RAID SSD enclosure, which packs 12 NVMe SSDs delivering up to 96TB of total storage. It offers sustained write speeds near 6,000 MB/s and peak read throughput of 6,600 MB/s, all over a single Thunderbolt 5 Type-C connector capable of 80 Gb/s bandwidth. The enclosure is passively cooled through a full aluminum chassis with embedded heatsinks, designed to maintain performance under prolonged workloads. Another notable highlight was the newly launched Thunderbolt 5 dock, equipped with 11 ports including three Thunderbolt 5 connections, dual 2.5GbE, audio I/O, and dual card readers (SD and CFexpress). It supports flexible bandwidth scaling up to 120 GB/s for video-intensive tasks. This makes it especially useful for creators relying on high-bandwidth workflows like 8K RAW video editing. The dock can also charge devices up to 240W via USB-C and acts as a central hub for Thunderbolt expansion, especially for compact systems like the Mac mini, which typically only include a single Thunderbolt port.
OWC also introduced several portable SSDs built for Thunderbolt 5, including passive-cooled enclosures in 2TB and 4TB variants. These devices leverage PCIe Gen 4 NVMe SSDs and offer high-speed data access in a compact, durable design. For professionals concerned about heat buildup, these SSDs are thermally engineered for sustained speeds and stability. Additionally, the company showed off its Thunderbolt 5 hub, designed to expand a single Thunderbolt port into multiple Thunderbolt and USB-C outputs—critical for users of devices like the M4 Mac mini with limited native connectivity.
On the flash media front, OWC presented its Atlas CFexpress 4.0 and SD card lineup. These cards offer read speeds over 3,000 MB/s and sustained write speeds beyond 1,500 MB/s, optimized for professional cameras shooting high-resolution video. The cards are supported by the company’s dual-format card reader and a proprietary utility called “Energize,” which provides health monitoring, firmware updates, and a sanitization feature to restore performance after extended use. This software is exclusive to OWC’s cards, due to custom firmware.
The Jellyfish shared storage system was also featured—a high-speed NAS geared toward media teams. With multiple SSDs and compact dimensions compared to traditional rackmount NAS, Jellyfish systems are built for real-time collaborative editing. The demo unit was running active workloads connected via a Thunderbolt 5 hub to a Mac mini, underscoring its suitability for on-set or post-production environments. The product line includes both desktop and rackmount versions, with its own software stack for media management.
In archival and hybrid storage, OWC showcased tape-based LTO systems supporting up to 45TB of compressed capacity per cartridge. These are intended for long-term backup with 30-year data longevity. Alongside this were dual-bay USB enclosures for 3.5” HDDs and hybrid bays allowing users to mix SSDs and HDDs within the same chassis. A modular PCIe SSD adapter system was also demonstrated, supporting four M.2 Gen 4 NVMe drives in RAID configurations for ultra-high throughput.
The Thunderbolt Pro Dock and its 10GbE support were mentioned as popular items in OWC’s lineup. While Thunderbolt 5 grabs attention, Thunderbolt 3 and 4 remain staples of the company’s offerings. Their docks serve users across macOS and Windows ecosystems, offering consistent bandwidth across Thunderbolt generations. Several SSD adapter cards with passive heatsinks for PCIe slot installation were also on display, designed for desktop users who need fast internal RAID setups without thermal throttling.
With headquarters in North America and regional offices in Asia, including Taiwan, OWC continues to support prosumers and creative professionals with scalable storage, robust connectivity, and workflow-specific tools. Their presence at Computex 2025 emphasized real-world use cases—particularly video production and data-heavy tasks—through practical demonstrations of interoperable Thunderbolt 5 gear and specialized media accessories.
