Velma represents an important moment in our storytelling culture. No one wanted it and yet it was made. No one liked it but it's getting a second season. I didn't enjoy anything about watching it but I still dedicated time to covering it on my YouTube channel.
The era of hatewatching content is only just beginning. With inferior versions of Star Trek, Doctor Who, Lord of the Rings, superhero movies and Scooby Doo now well-established we are guaranteed to see an entire new subgenre of fiction emerge. A form of artistic expression which seeks to exploit audiences' nostalgia and frustration in order to maximize viewership and notoriety; disregarding writing standards in favor of shock value.
