E. Jean Carroll Seeks to Amend 2019 Lawsuit for Trump's Disparaging Remarks During CNN 's Town Hall

Following former President Trump's insulting remarks about writer E. Jean Carroll at CNN's Town Hall, Carroll's legal team led by Robbie Kaplan now seeks to amend her 2019 defamation suit to seek $10 million dollars in compensatory damages. I discuss with Wolf Blitzer, Katelyn Polantz, and Nancy Erika Smith the effect of this new legal move. I point out that this really turns up the pressure on Attorney General Garland and DOJ to reconsider whether they will continue to seek to defend Trump under the theory that his alleged defamation was part of his duties as President of the United States. In my opinion this is weak argument for DOJ and the deposition evidence revealed in the Carroll trial shows Trump seemingly did nothing to consult with White House advisors about the Carroll accusations which would undercut the argument that he was acting within the scope of his presidential duties.
