Presented at The Greene Space on March 25th, 2025
On March 25, 1911 a fire erupted at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory, killing 146 workers. In its wake, reformers, union activists and politicians banded together to form the Factory Investigating Committee which succeeded in recommending dozens of laws to improve working conditions and protect labor.
On this anniversary, Shaina Taub, the creator of Suffs, brings to life the voices of Clara Lemlich, Rose Schneiderman and Frances Perkins, women who organized for reform. WNYC’s Amina Srna moderates a conversation with historians Annelise Orleck, Annie Polland, and Margaret Chin, author of Sewing Women. Join us on March 25th — in person at WNYC’s The Greene Space or online on YouTube Live — as we memorialize the victims and explore the labor movement and cross-class alliances, including the 1982 Chinatown Strike, that led to monumental change.
