In this Video I take an In depth dive into the different Generations of General Electric C7 and C9 Bulbs , This is Mainly Focused on the Most Commonly Avail C7 and C9 Bulbs Beginning in the 1920s ending with the dawn of the 1980s , I feature examples of these bulbs when I have them in my collection I hope you all find this Video Helpful in determining approx how old your GE C7 and C9 bulbs are:
Late 1928s era The first c9 flame swirl bulbs with flat exterior paint
1933 The Inside wet silica Color Coating was applied to the Flame C9 Swirl
1934 The first C7 Bulbs Introduced ( Used a Flat Finish Paint Like the C6 of the time)
1945 The Mazda Name is Dropped after ww2
1949 The Second Generation C7 Introduced using the Inside Wet Silica Color Coating Like the C9 flame bulbs
1954 The third generation C7 Bulb gets the New Ceramic Fired color Coating, the inside color C7 were discontinued at the end of 1953
1955 GE Introduces the Pink C7 and C6 Bulbs also during the production run that year the Logo on the bulbs Changed from the old block G.E. Logo to the Script in Circle Logo , Last year for the inside color C9 Flame Bulbs
1956 First Blinker Bulbs Introduced these are for 6volt transformer sets, the c9 flame bulbs were Ceramic fired Color Coated for the 1956 production run
1957 the smooth Ceramic D14 C9 Introduced , also the C9 transparent Blinker Bulbs Were Introduced as well as Lighted Ice Bulbs
1958 c7 transparent Blinker bulbs introduced , the transparent Merry Brights were introduced as well as Lighted Sno bulbs
1961 satin glo Bulbs introduced
1969 Satin Glo was discontinued in favor of the Satin Bright Bulbs
1971 Star Dust Bulbs Introduced , transparent Cool Bright Bulbs Introduced
1972 The "D" lettering /numbering scheme abandoned (IE: D36 Satin Bright Became C7SB , D14 C9 Became C9CC etc) Lighted Ornaments, Lighted Bells Introduced
1973 Satin Bright Discontinued ( No Mention of them at all in the 1973 Christmas Light Catalog)
1977 all Ceramic Bulbs were discontinued and wattages Lowered C7 went from 7 to 5 watts and the C9 went from 10 -7 watts starting in 1977 all bulbs had a Gloss enamel Paint on them , lighted bells and Ornaments Were Discontinued ( Not sure when the Star Dust Bulbs or the lighted Sno Bulbs were discontinued ?)
