Full Lyrics
And did a Light in ancient time
Shine once on England’s pastures green?
And did the Christ of distant clime
Come in a small boat, frail and lean—
As Joseph of Arimathea
Bore Him through storm and bitter sea?
Shall that old tale now stir us still
To rise from apathy and ill?
Bring me the flame of living truth,
Bring me the strength to stand and care;
Bring me a heart renewed in youth,
Bring me a mind reclaimed from glare.
O dark satanic mills of screens,
With endless scrolling, noise, and spin,
Shall yield at last to wiser means,
Where we may build a Jerusalem within.
O restless world of fear and praise,
Shall Christ not walk through every page?
His quiet steps can guide our ways
And calm our hearts in every age.
Bring me the tools of patient love,
Bring me the courage to begin;
As Joseph bore Him long ago,
So may His hope take root within.
