WWE SmackDown March 31, 2006: Kurt Angle vs Rey Mysterio (SmackDown vs RAW 2007)

In late 2005, WWE lost one of its' greatest superstars when Eddie Guerrero passed away. Eddie was one of the most charismatic and athletic competitors to ever step inside the ring, and his untimely passing was an emotional experience for many. A majority of the WWE roster paid tribute to the legend over the coming months, with one of the more inspirational stories involving underdog Rey Mysterio.

Dedicating his 2006 Royal Rumble performance to Eddie, Rey Mysterio entered as number two in the Rumble and went on to win the contest. Mysterio had sealed his ticket into a world title match at WrestleMania 22, but there were others who were eager to take the spot for themselves.

As the 2006 edition of No Way Out drew near, Randy Orton chose to try to get inside the head of Rey Mysterio. Orton had been the final man eliminated in the Royal Rumble, and being within a inch of a WrestleMania main event wasn't something he took well. The Legend Killer did everything he could to get Mysterio to put his shot on the line, and he accomplished this by talking ill of Eddie Guerrero.

At No Way Out, Orton defeated Mysterio by using the ropes as leverage, a clear violation of the rules. That victory earned Randy Orton a match with Kurt Angle for the World Heavyweight Championship, with Rey Mysterio seemingly being left off the show. However, SmackDown General Manager Teddy Long decided to add Rey Mysterio back into the title match, making it a triple threat. At WrestleMania 22, could Rey Mysterio defy the odds and become World Heavyweight Champion? In order to do so, he'd have to overcome Randy Orton and Kurt Angle, two of the greatest superstars in WWE history. On the Road to WrestleMania 22, Rey Mysterio met Kurt Angle in single's action, bringing us to our video here today.
