I got a chance to try the new Golf GTE on the Nürburging Nordschleife during the autumn Scuderia Hanseat driving course - and of course I couldn't say no!
The Golf GTE is brilliant on the road. However when you take it to the track and push it to its limits, it simply falls short. The biggest problem is the brakes, which are way to small for the heavy car. The pedal would go rock hard after only 8 kilometers on the Nordschleife, if you go flat out - this is why I am coasting quite a lot in the video.
The GTE is pretty heavy car (1.600 kg) but it actually doesn't feel overweight on the track. Turn in is pretty neutral and if you lift off the throttle you can play a bit with the rear of the car. I quite enjoyed it on the Nordschelife - even though it really needs harder, lower springs and bigger brakes.
