Ankara University ( AU ) is a state university located in Ankara . It was established on June 13, 1946, with Law No. 4936. It is the first university established during the Republican era.
The foundations of Ankara University were laid through the consolidation of various higher education institutions. The process, which began with the School of Law in 1925, continued with the establishment of the Higher Institute of Agriculture in 1933 and the Faculty of Language, History, and Geography in 1935. The School of Political Science, which moved to Ankara in 1936, and the Faculty of Medicine and Science, established after World War II , also formed part of this structure.
