Vinegar eats magnesium! If you ever wanted to see proof of that concept, this is the video! Not just a science lab experiment with some small pieces, but large scale, in the real world. Magnesium dissolved by vinegar!
Mongo want to fix up this old hand crank drill. It seized, wood is cracking, very rusty. Little disassembly and... This is were everything went bad. Mongo put all the metal pieces in a vinegar bath without realizing the main frame of the hand crank drill is made of Magnesium. Other than that everything else go good, everything get loosened up, filled in the wood cracks, cleaned up all the rust. Its a good working drill now.
Chemistry is a very cool subject, very complex. Acidic reactions are cool and complex as well. Mongo appreciate seeing it first hand, not just in a lab with small samples. Whole other thing to see it in the real world using a whole tool with a mix of materials. Interesting that it didn't all get eaten equally, maybe a chemist out there can explain why. Some cavities are much deeper than others. Mongo found it very interesting. Like watching the artistic ability of mother nature. Hang it on the wall as a constant reminder to pay more attention.
Mistakes happen, Mongo think it important to share the mistakes, more is learned from a failure then a success.
Hopefully this video help you to NOT make the same mistake Mongo make.
