Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic arrived in Moscow on Wednesday night to discuss the Yugoslav conflict with Russian President Boris Yeltsin.
Milosevic has responded at short notice to Yeltsin's invitation for peace talks in Moscow.
Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic responded immediately to an invitation to Moscow to discuss peace in Yugoslavia.
Milosevic landed in a small aircraft at 1 a.m. (2100 GMT Wednesday) at the government airport in Moscow.
The Serbian leader was greeted by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov.
Milosevic told reporters he was "glad to be speaking to President Yeltsin and his colleagues "before speeding off into the night in a cavalcade of black cars.
He is due to hold talks with Yeltsin later on Thursday, a meeting which the Kremlin hopes will help stop fighting in former Yugoslavia even though Croatian President Franjo Tudjman turned down Yeltsin's invitation to attend.
