Asian Markets Trade Lower, Wall Street Futures Fall; Weak Start On D-Street Today? | CNBC TV18

Asian markets traded mostly lower on Monday ahead of key economic data from China. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan dipped 0.1%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 declined 0.85%, while the Topix fell 0.46%. South Korea’s Kospi rose 0.18%, while the Kosdaq dropped 0.15%. Hong Kong Hang Seng index futures indicated a lower opening.

Meanwhile, Gift Nifty was trading around 25,592 level, a discount of nearly 160 points from the Nifty futures’ previous close, indicating a gap-down start for the Indian stock market indices.

U.S. stock futures slid after President Donald Trump threatened to slap extra tariffs on eight European nations until ​the U.S. is allowed to buy Greenland, pushing the dollar down on the safe-haven yen and Swiss franc.

A holiday in U.S. equity and bond markets made for thin trading and likely contributed to a 0.7% drop in S&P 500 futures and a 1.0% fall in Nasdaq futures .

U.S. stock market ended Friday’s choppy session nearly flat ahead of the long weekend, while all three major indexes posted losses for the week.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 83.11 points, or 0.17%, to 49,359.33, while the S&P 500 fell 4.46 points, or 0.06%, to 6,940.01. The Nasdaq Composite ended 14.63 points, or 0.06%, lower at 23,515.39. For the week, the S&P 500 declined 0.38%, the Nasdaq fell 0.66% and the Dow dropped 0.29%.
