This week I’m putting the question out there — should this Camino de Santiago channel actually continue? Now, don’t worry, I’m not throwing in the towel just yet, and I’m definitely not having some kind of crisis! But I’ve been thinking seriously about it and I’d love your honest thoughts.
This isn’t a commercial channel. I don’t make a cent from it — no ads, no affiliate links, nothing like that. I started the channel for myself, really. Especially when I’m out on the Camino de Santiago, I use it like a video diary. I’m not great at writing journals, so recording what I’m seeing, feeling and experiencing in the moment is my way of capturing those memories. And to be honest, I do go back and rewatch them — it’s like flipping through a photo album but with all the sounds, weather and emotion wrapped up in it.
That’s probably 60% of the reason I do this. But in between Caminos, I’ve also tried to share tips and reflections — just bits and pieces I’ve picked up that others might find helpful. Still, I can’t help but wonder… with so many Camino YouTube channels already out there — some of them absolutely brilliant — does mine really add any value?
There are a few creators I really admire. I gave a shout out to Days We Spend — Laney and Sean, you two are fantastic. I’ve watched your Madrid series a few times now, especially since that’s likely my next Camino. And of course, Sara Dhooma — I’ve relied on Sara’s channel more than once to research routes. There’s some great stuff out there already.
So here’s the thing: does the Camino community really need another voice in the mix? Is this channel actually useful to anyone? I’m more than happy to keep doing it, especially the Camino diaries, even if it’s just for personal use. But if you’re finding value in the videos — if they help you prepare for your own walk, inspire you, or even just make you feel a bit more connected to the Camino world — then I’d love to know.
What would you like to see more of? Route reviews, packing tips, reflections from the trail, post-Camino thoughts? Or are you happy to just let this one go and focus on other great content that’s already out there?
I’ll keep going for now — I’ve got a couple of good topics coming up — but I genuinely want to hear from you. This channel has never been about “look at me,” it’s just a way to share and connect with a community I love being part of.
So please jump into the comments. Be honest. Say what you think. Should the channel continue? If so, how can it best serve the Camino community? Really looking forward to the discussion.
Buen Camino, and I’ll chat to you again soon.
