"Dangerous Acts" at Spelman College | Full Documentary

Lucille Lortel Theatre illuminates groundbreaking Black women writers from the early-20th century, connecting their legacy to the next generation of actors studying at Spelman College. Aku Kadogo directs students in readings of "Blue Blood" by Georgia Douglas Johnson and "Her" by Eulalie Spence.

When is creating art a Dangerous Act?
In collaboration with esteemed HBCUs like Howard University, Hampton University, and Spelman College, the Lucille Lortel Theatre and ALL ARTS proudly amplifies the voices of Black storytellers through its NY Emmy Award® winning series, "Dangerous Acts."

At a time when Black writers were not encouraged to record their experiences or make their lives known, visionaries like Zora Neale Hurston, Mary P. Burrill, and Willis Richardson took the radical step of putting their truths on paper and sharing them with their communities.

Dangerous Acts brings these groundbreaking works back to life, connecting them to a new generation of performers and thinkers at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Through this initiative, we not only honor the brilliance of these early voices but also inspire students to carry forward the rich legacy of Black storytelling with pride, purpose, and power.
