Tour de Chambarlet - Vallée de l'Arc - Maurienne - Savoie

Lorsqu'on parcourt la vallée de la Maurienne, on peut apercevoir de nombreuses tours et châteaux d'époque médiévale. Sur la commune de Saint Michel de Maurienne, on peut apercevoir sur un plateau au-dessus du village la tour de Chambarlet. Cette tour ronde qui était entourée de tout un dispositif de bâtiments et de fortifications est ce qui reste de l'ancien château de Saint Michel.
Propriété de la famille des Mareschal, il fut, sur le plan militaire, pris deux fois, par Lesdiguières, puis par le maréchal Faber sous Louis XIII en 1630, l'ordre du duc Charles-Emmanuel de le détruire en 1613 n'ayant pas été suivi d'exécution.
Malgré cela, il était encore en assez bon état en 1690, mais fut de nouveau occupé par les troupes françaises d'invasion, il commença à tomber en ruines et ne fut plus occupé.
Dans le village, on aperçoit non loin de l'église la Tour Mareschal, grosse tour carrée qui est l'une des deux tours dites tour noire et tour blanche qui ne formaient qu'une maison forte.

When you travel through the Maurienne valley, you can see many towers and castles from the medieval period. In the town of Saint Michel de Maurienne, you can see the Chambarlet tower on a plateau above the village. This round tower which was surrounded by a whole system of buildings and fortifications is what remains of the ancient castle of Saint Michel.
Property of the Mareschal family, it was, on a military level, taken twice, by Lesdiguières, then by Marshal Faber under Louis XIII in 1630, the order of Duke Charles-Emmanuel to destroy it in 1613 not having being followed by execution.
Despite this it was still in fairly good condition in 1690, but was occupied again by invading French troops, it began to fall into ruin and was no longer occupied.
In the village, we can see not far from the church the Mareschal Tower, a large square tower which is one of the two towers called the black tower and the white tower which formed only one fortified house.
