Violence erupts in Yumbe over pork sale protest

Violent scenes were witnessed in Yumbe Town on Tuesday as a group of Muslim youths, armed with clubs and machetes, attacked government institutions and businesses belonging to Christians while protesting against the sale of pork in the area. The unrest began when police attempted to arrest Sheikh Kasim Abdallah, the Imam of Munir Mosque. In a video recording last week, he urged Muslims to reject the sale of pork in Yumbe, claiming it is a predominantly Muslim district.
