PM Modi breaks protocol! Travels in the same car with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Gujarat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi broke the protocol in Gujarat during German Chancellor Friedrich Merz India visit. PM Modi and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz travelled together in the same car on Jan 12 making headlines. The German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is currently on a two-day official visit to India, marking the first such visit since assuming office. Also, Chancellor Friedrich Merz's visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of India-Germany diplomatic relations. This is not the first time Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a car ride together with a world leader. Earlier in Sep 2025 PM Modi, Russian Prez Putin travelled in the same car on the sidelines of 25th SCO Summit in China. Also in a unique gesture Ethiopian PM Abiy Ahmed Ali drove PM Modi from the airport to hotel during his visit to Ethiopia. Similarly, on Dec 16 2025, Jordan Crown Prince Al Hussein Bin Abdullah II drove PM Modi to the Jordan Museum as a special gesture
