Fisherman’s Blues’ was written by Mike Scott of The Waterboys and released in 1988 as the title track of their album of the same name, marking a shift in the band’s sound towards a more Irish and folk-influenced style after Scott spent time in Ireland. The song reflects the desire to leave behind a restless city life in search of peace, love and simplicity, symbolised by the dream of becoming a fisherman by the sea, and has since become one of The Waterboys’ most loved and widely covered songs.
