Bill Porter worked with Direct sales, he worked for Watkins Incorporated based out of Winona, Minnesota. Born with cerebral palsy, Porter's background and work was brought to the public's attention in 1995 when an Oregon-based newspaper published a series of feature stories about him. Wikipedia

William H. Macy stars in this moving story of one man's refusal to allow cerebral palsy to defeat him. In 1955 Bill Porter attempts to follow in his father's footsteps when he applies for a job as a door-to-door Direct salesman with the Fuller Brush Company--even though Porter's ailment slurs his speech and makes walking difficult. After being rejected for the job, Porter applies at the Watkins Company. Again, he is turned down. But with the support of his mother, Porter convinces Watkins to grant him the company's worst route… a route that with perseverance and heart he turns into and a success.
