There are a couple of prime contenders for the crown of the best movie year ever. 1999 marked the peak of a hip indie cinema, 1962 a final hurrah for classical Hollywood, 1967 the dawning of the New Hollywood. And there's the immortal 1939, the zenith of the Hollywood dream factory, where movies were the dominant cultural pastime. But what if I told you the real best movie year ever was one you've probably never even considered?
