Meet Mike Jones, a new Deputy with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. He just completed training at the Southwest Washington Regional Academy. Over the course of 19 weeks, recruits like Mike learn the fundamentals of law enforcement — from legal authority and officer safety to communication and threat management.
In this video, Dep. Jones shares his journey and insights, including:
• What it’s like to train at the Southwest Washington Regional Academy
• How the program taught him to be a better communicator, not just a better deputy
• The importance of learning through failure and growing from every challenge
• How having a police academy in Vancouver allows him to be home with his wife and young daughter every night
Dep. Jones's advice for anyone thinking about starting a career in law enforcement: “Don’t be afraid to try.”
