2025 saw European countries take big strides in boosting their defence, increasing spending and building up their armies with some looking at reintroducing conscription.
As the war in Ukraine continued with little progress on a peace plan, Russian drones violated European airspace and Donald Trump pushed other countries to step up in NATO with countries pledging to spend more.
In this round-up of European security in 2025, Roundtable looks at some of the big military stories from across Europe including the debate over a unified European army after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reignited the idea.
The Roundtable team also travelled to Warsaw to see how Poland is transforming its military as it allocated nearly 5% of its GDP to shield itself from the threat in the East.
We also explore Lithuania's ambitious $1bn ‘Baltic Defense Line,’ a three-layer project designed to secure the frontier against hybrid warfare.
Has Europe done enough in 2025 to better protect its territory?
