Mugman wants some peace and quiet to himself to read a book, but finds himself being repeatedly disturbed by a gadfly ice cream man. After furiously yelling at him, Mugman quickly realizes his mistake (after imagining himself as main character Mugbeard being rejected by the Cala Maria-like character from the book) and searches for the ice cream man to apologize to him, only to be annoyed again when the ice cream man tells him that he got a new hat (due to Mugman criticizing his original hat during his angry rant). He then spoils the book's ending (that Mugbeard dies in the end), causing a very raged Mugman to beat him up in retaliation (more out of the belief the ice cream man still didn't "fix his hat" than having the book's ending spoiled), before Cuphead and Elder Kettle arrive home.
