Japan Day 2 - Imperial Palace Grounds, Akihabara and Sushi!

Day 2 out of 24 in Japan! I traveled to Japan in October of 2023, and it was hands down one of the best experiences of my life. Just me, my backpack and a whole country to explore.

Due to jet lag, I woke up quite early around 4 AM and could not go back to sleep. Thankfully sun-up was at 5:36 AM. So I went for a run around the Imperial palace grounds, which was not too far from my hotel. To my surprise there were a lot of other people running too.

Next, I took a quick tour of the nearby police museum and then made my way into Akihabara, where I had my first authentic sushi experience.

Ended the day off by stopping at the Pokemon Centre Toyko DX. This is also where the Pokemon Cafe is, but I was unable to get in as I did not have a reservation.


Stay:

In this video, I stayed at Hotel Sui (Hotel Best) in Ginza. It was right near Tokyo Station, so the walk was not far when taking the Narita Express train from Narita Airport. I booked through Expedia, but have linked their direct website below.

Commuting:

If you are only staying in Tokyo, the local transit system is more than efficient to get around. However, if you are looking to travel to other cities, consider getting a Japan Rail (JR) pass. I purchased mine from Japan Experience, and have linked their website below. Order sufficiently ahead of time to allow your paperwork to arrive in the mail to your actual address. When you're in Japan, you need to present this paperwork to a JR office, where you can redeem your JR pass.
