On a warm August day at the Oregon Zoo, one thing is as clear as mud: Asian elephants — especially the young ones — love to wallow in the sticky stuff.
Samudra, who turns 8 this month, and his 3-year-old sister, Lily, spent much of the afternoon rolling, soaking and splashing in a mud wallow and wading pool at the zoo’s new Elephant Lands habitat today.
