Kandy to Ella Train Ride… We Almost Lost Each Other!

After a quick stop in Kandy, exploring the busy markets and enjoying some tasty Sri Lankan street food, we set off for one of the most famous train rides in the world: the Kandy to Ella train.
Of course, we hadn’t pre-booked tickets (rookie error), so after an early start we ended up waiting 3 hours at the station. Luckily, the wait was worth it — this route is unbelievably scenic, hanging out of the train doors as we wound through tea fields and mountains. 🌿
But the real drama came halfway through. The train actually carried on all the way to Badulla (where we needed to be next), so we scrambled to change our plans on the go. In the chaos, Ollie ended up off the train at Ella buying tickets… as Martha stayed on board. The train started moving, Martha panicked, and Ollie had to somehow get back on. 😳
Luckily, he made it back, and we got the surprise reunion caught on camera. A wild end to what’s supposed to be the “world’s most scenic train ride.”
