$3 Fountain Pen Comparison: Pilot Varsity vs Platinum Preppy

What is the best $3 fountain pen: The Pilot Varsity ( https://amzn.to/2GKeAGe ) / V-Pen or the Platinum Preppy ( https://amzn.to/2GHnGHx )?
They are both good pens, but the Platinum Preppy is my pick. It's really an incredible offering at $3 or so. It's not only a solid cartridge pen, but it can easily be converted to a eyedropper with a huge capacity. Plus it looks really cool.
The Varsity is fine, and has a unique design where you can use it, put it down for years... and when you next pick it up it'll work great. That said, it doesn't look particularly cool or write as well as the Preppy.
