When Maya first arrived at Georgia Tech, she was taken aback with some of the courses especially computer science; it really made her question her major. The more she progressed through the program curriculum the more she questioned whether she was fit to become an engineer because it was challenging. She could remember a time about halfway during her junior year where she almost transferred out of her major and out of Georgia Tech. Maya recalls when she broke down emotionally. She realized that she had reached a point that she could not handle her situation on her own, so she decided to reach out to a few people for help. Maya’s advice to all students, “Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Engineering is hard. Engineering is meant to challenge you. Whatever school you go to, engineering is going to be tough. Don’t feel like you are alone. You’re definitely not alone.”
Maya is currently a Doctorate student in Environmental Engineering at the University of South Florida. Maya holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). During this video shoot, Maya was a summer intern at Intel.
