When we gathered in early 2020 to sing this song of pain and healing, we had no idea of the pain that this year would bring, from COVID-19 to police violence. We offer this as a meditation for those struggling with grief, trauma, or pain, and for those who are aching for justice and peace.
arr. by Peter Amidon and Andrew & Hilary Donaldson, available as a free download at amidonchoralmusic.com
The music was composed by Rachel Kroh, a member of Music that Makes Community, an organization that helps people connect through 'paperless' singing. Rachel was inspired by a passage from Rainer Maria Rilke's "Sonnets to Orpheus":
"Fear not the pain,
let its weight fall back into the earth.
For heavy are the mountains, heavy are the seas."
** This video was filmed early in 2020, before COVID-19 distancing measures came into effect. We're looking forward to a time when we can all sing together again. **
