Ok everyone so today I made this small knife out of an old lawnmower blade! I've wanted to make a knife for a long time and have finally gotten around to doing so. A main set back was the metal to use, but with a little research I found that a lawnmower blade is the perfect candidate! So I went off with an angle grinder and cut out a drop point blade. Then I made a jig to cut a bevel for the blade edge, it was very simple but worked great! Next I drilled the holes in the tang of the knife for the wooden handle. Then came the tempering process. The First blade I made sadly melted due to way high temperatures in my forge. So I settled with I a propane torch the second go around. To stabilize the metal which in my case meant I had to heat it to 1600 degrees then let the blade cool naturally in still air, I did that 2 times. Then I heated the blade once more to around 1450 degresse and cooled it in oil to make it hard. Then I started to make a handle out of iron wood, I love working with this wood because of its destiny and stability. So i epoxied the two half of the handle on then used 1/4'' metal stock as pins to add strength and aethstetics. After much sanding the handle was finally ready for a finish. I used danish oil, after a few coats I added my brand into the steel and it was finished! This knife turned out amazing and I love the size of it. For the first time sharpening its also very sharp! So thank you guys so much for watching!
I'll catch you on the next video!
